“Holiday Trees” Outed at Airport

SEATTLE-TACOMA Airport – All of the Christmas trees inside the terminal at Sea-Tac have been removed in response to a complaint by a rabbi.

A local rabbi wanted to install an 8-foot menorah and have a public lighting ceremony. He threatened to sue if the menorah wasn’t put up, and gave a two-day deadline to remove the trees.

Sea-Tac public affairs manager Terri-Ann Betancourt said the trees that adorn the Sea-Tac upper and lower levels may not properly represent all cultures.

The airport apparently first tried to placate the Rabbi by calling the trees “Holiday Trees,” the “Festive Season Trees,” then “Winter Solstice Trees,” and finally, “Just Plain Trees.” But the offended person replied “I saw through their sneaky business right away. Those are CHRISTMAS TREES, I’m telling you!”

With 315 religious traditions in America, maybe airports better avoid lawsuits from the easily offended and just stick to what they do best, like lose our luggage…

Survey finds Christmas gone from cards?
LONDON, Dec. 9 (UPI) —
A survey by a British newspaper finds that only about 1 percent of the Christmas cards sold in the country have a religious message.

Nativity scenes, shepherds in the fields and the three kings following the star have given way to dancing meerkats or scenes of winter weather, The Daily Mail reported. If the shepherds or kings do appear, it is usually on a joke card, like one suggesting the shepherds had been smoking drugs.

Just over half the cards wish recipients “Merry Christmas.” Others say “Season’s Greetings” with no message at all.

“Of course we can’t tell shops what to stock or customers what to buy but it would be nice if more cards carrying messages reminding people of the birth of Christ were being made, bought and sent,” said a spokesman for the Church of England.

The Royal Mail has dropped religious stamps and some local councils have renamed the holiday season “Winterval.”

The newspaper said some Muslim groups have joined the movement to restore religion to Christmas, fearing the move in the other direction could spark a backlash.

Hmmm….  “Winterval”???

  1. Keep up the good fight. We need the phone# and e-mail address for terminal at Sea-Tac and the Seattle newspapers. This is just crazy. My mother wanted me to buy her a box of religious Christmas Cards. I looked all over. Finally found one (1) box at the drug store. Thanks for adding Faultline USA to your blogs blogrolls!
